Increasingly over the past 20 years our consumerist economy has encouraged us to throw away and purchase new, rather than repair and reuse. With this in mind, we run a Welding Workshop in North Dorset. The course is run by Rob Buckley, who has over 40 years experience as an engineer using Arc, Mig, Gas and Tig.
Gift vouchers are available for future courses, contact us to order one.

Overview
Anyone can weld! Welding is an invaluable skill for many repairs around the home, workshop or car, yet few people know how to weld but anyone can do it. Spend the day in our fully equipped workshop and learn the correct way to Arc, Mig and Gas weld. Car enthusiasts, sculptors and those just wanting to add to their workshop skills are welcome.
The day course will start with a health and safety briefing in the workshop followed by an introduction to the use of tools and equipment and the ”science’ of welding. This is a practical course and the focus of the day will be getting you quickly onto the tools, setting up the welders and so you can spend the majority of the day making good, strong welds and test pieces.
-
The course includes:
- Theory and practical use of Arc, Mig and Gas welding
- Basic metallurgy; metal, steel and non-ferrous
- Judging heat of metal by its colour
- Effect on metal of different temperatures
- Testing welds
- Dressing welds; grinder and file
- Safety and good practice in the workshop
Our one day welding course is perfect to teach you to weld, and most of our students leave the centre with the confidence to go home and practice their new skill safely and successfully.
There are only two places on each course, allowing you to progress at your own pace and work with our experienced welding tutor. Students are welcome to bring in their own welder if they have one, so they can be shown how to set it up and use it properly.
If you are fitted with a heart pacemaker, it is possible that some types are effected by the magnetic field of a welder. Before booking on the course please check with your doctor that it is safe for you to attend.

Practice Makes Perfect!
We can’t make you an ace welder in one day, but we can take complete novices and by the end of the day you will understand what you are doing and why, set up the welders correctly and be able to make good, strong welds.
-
Tools & Kit
Welders, tools and all safety equipment will provided on the day. However, if you wish to bring your own welder to learn how to set it up properly you can.
-
Minimum Age
16 years old is the minimum age to come on our welding course. There is no maximum age.
-
Quality Teaching
We fit a lot into one day which is why, as well as H&S considerations, there are only two places per course. The day is spent is the workshop on the tools, not in a classroom! We provide plenty of good quality metal for test welds so you won’t be rummaging through a scrap bin, and if you have specific projects in mind Rob will be happy to discuss them with you on the day and advise.

Bespoke Welding Tuition
